Attendance

REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES

If a student will be absent from school, parents/guardians must call the office at 604-594-3474.  Please CLEARLY state the student’s name, grade, reason for absence and length of absence.  Parents will receive an email indicating the block(s) that their child has been marked absent from. Office staff will call home during the school day if an absence is recorded as NOT excused.

ATTENDANCE IS A KEY TO SUCCESS IN SCHOOL

At Sands, we value student attendance.  We believe that instructional time is one of the keys to helping students learn.  With that in mind, we are asking parents to be partners with us to help track the absenteeism of your child.  Please monitor your child's attendance through Parent Connect.  Phone us if there is an illness or appointment.  Most of all, emphasize with your child the importance of attending classes.  Doing the assignments after an absence is only one part of the learning.  Being in class to see, to hear, and to participate makes the learning easier and more likely to be retained.  If you have any concerns regarding your child's attendance, achievement or any other issues, please feel free to contact the counsellors, Ms. McPhedren and/or Mr. Randhawa.
