Welcome to Sands Secondary School! It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we look forward to the 2014/2015 school year. For some of you and your families, the new school year means comfort in returning to familiar surroundings, the excitement of reconnecting with friends and the opportunity to continue your learning journey. For those who are new to Sands, this September will bring with it the many questions associated with a new environment, the opportunity to meet new people and a chance to participate in new experiences that will enrich your learning journey. As the incoming principal of Sands, I feel much the same way and look forward to continuing to grow as an educator, learner and person. I am truly honoured to be working within a school community that has shown such an intense commitment to student learning. I believe that strong, trusting relationships lay at the foundation for learning in schools and as such, I look forward to getting to know all of you over the course of this year.
Sands has a caring and dedicated staff. Together, we will continue our journey to achieve the bold vision that we created for the district. We look forward to working with parents and students to maintain the excitement and enthusiasm that makes success possible for all learners.
As we approach the start of the year, please do not hesitate to call on teachers, educational assistants, support staff or myself, as the staff of Sands are here to help you learn, grow as a person and have an amazing year! On behalf of the Sands Secondary School staff, we look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks and helping you celebrate your successes and accomplishments.
Mr. A. Akune, Principal
