Principal's Message April 2014

Welcome Back!  I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break!  As we move into April, the time seems to go by more quickly, and the end of the school year is in sight!

Before the break our music students performed at their spring concert.   It was an entertaining and enjoyable evening for everyone in attendance.  All of the parents that I spoke to commented on the dedication of our Sands musicians.  Thank you to Mr. Maller for all of his work with our students.  I know they are looking forward to performing at the Whistler Music Festival.

Our winter sports teams finished up their seasons with some very exciting playoff games.  Congratulations to all players and coaches.  Thank you to all of our coaches for the numerous hours that they volunteered to share their knowledge and  love of the game with our students.

Our final day of classes is Monday, June 16th, and we will have students in session for the remainder of that week writing exams, attending tutorials, open gyms and shop and completing work with teachers.   A schedule for provincial exams can be found on our website as well as the Ministry of Education website.  Please note that the provincial exam dates were changed in February and these dates are the current and correct ones.

Our Awards Recognition Assembly will take place on Tuesday, June 17th at 1:30 in our Sands gymnasium.  All students and parents are welcome to attend.  The details for the ceremony will be posted on the website in May, and an email will be sent home to all award winners as well as posted throughout the school.

This is also our time to celebrate with the eighth class of Sands graduates.  The formal dinner dance takes place on May 23rd with students arriving at the school for the red carpet event at 3:00 pm. They will have a chance to mingle with friends, parents, and staff at the school, ending with a group picture of our Sands 2014 Grad class.  Graduates are then off to Quilchena Golf Club in Richmond for an elegant and formal dinner and dance.  Following the end of the dance there is community dry grad hosted by the grade 11 and 12 parent groups at Burnsview, Delview, North Delta, and Sands.  I will be sending an email out to all grade 12 parents with more details and expectations around the school sponsored events.

The Valedictory, the formal ceremony and the last time for our graduates to be together as a class, takes place on Wednesday, June 18th at North Delta Secondary School.  This is an opportunity for Sands staff, students, and the community to recognize our graduates.  More information on both these events will be sent home in an email and posted on our website.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our parent teacher interviews on April 10th.
